"Going on tour has given us all memories that we will cherish forever. Best weekend ever!"

Supporting our community and important initiatives is so important to us. Editorial Office have been long-term supporters of our local youth football team, Overton Youth FC.

In March, we were especially pleased to support a football tour, over in Belgium, giving the under 14s a chance to play abroad. Read on to hear directly from one of the players, Sam Galvin…

Our football tour to Zondhoven in Belgium

We left Overton on Thursday 28th about 7am and drove to Dover and caught the Ferry over to Dunkirk. The weather was not great, so the crossing was very rocky! It was good fun though.

We got to Oostappen Vakantiepark Hengelhoef late on Thursday, which was just like a holiday camp. There was a pool with waterslides and arcades, pool tables and video games.

We all had a great time exploring the park and finding things to do. Our favourite thing was the pool and waterslides where we spent hours when we had some free time.

On the Friday we had a free day, so we went on the coach to Liege and had a look around. There were loads of shops and restaurants and we all enjoyed having a real Belgian waffle!

Tournament Day 1

The football tournament started on the Saturday. It took place in Zondhoven. They were the host team. On the first day of the tournament, we played three matches and we finished top of the group. We were so proud of ourselves, as we all played really well. It was interesting playing against teams who spoke different languages as we didn’t know what they were saying to each other!

We made friends with a Danish team, who supported us the whole way through, even though we beat them on day 1. They were very supportive of us, which was nice.

On the Saturday evening, we all went out for a really nice meal. There were 32 of us, including all of the coaches and parents. We had a great time and it was nice to all be out together to talk about the matches that had happened earlier that day.

Tournament Day 2

Day 2 of the tournament was also Easter Sunday. We were seeded and played another 4 matches.

The most exciting part of the tour was winning the quarter final on penalties. I am the goalie and saved the penalty that allowed us to win. The best feeling was when the whole team came running over to me and we celebrated together.  We had all played to the best of our ability and made it to the semi-final.

In the semis, we narrowly lost on penalties, which was a shame. However, we were proud of what we achieved and came 4th overall out of 16 teams in our age group.

Making memories

We are all very grateful to have been able to go on the tour. We were very fortunate to have had some amazing sponsors like Editorial Office who made this a reality. We are all so grateful for their generosity.

Going on tour has given us all memories that we will cherish forever. Best weekend ever.

Supporting memory making opportunities.

It is so important to us that we support young people with important activities, like being part of a football team, as well as giving them the opportunity to travel, meet new people and make lasting memories.

If you have community project or important local event, do get in touch – email: [email protected] . We can’t promise to sponsor every time, but we love to hear about what is going on and offer support when and where we can.
